The Silencers (Image)
(Image, 2005)
™ and © 2005Fred Van Lente and Steve Ellis
This gang of super-powered mob enforcers created by Fred Van Lente and Steve Ellis debuted in a well-received four issue mini-series from Moonstone Comics in 2003 collected in the trade paperback The Silencers: Black Kiss. The creators moved the franchise to Image Comics for a second four-issue run in 2005, but financial constraints prevented delivery of issues #2-4. That’s a shame because this innovative and highly readable creation deserves a big audience.
Powered and Dangerous picks up one year after the events depicted in Black Kiss. The void left by the vanquishment of the Silencers’ rival gang the Syndicate along with the break-up of the Provenzano crime family makes the Silencers a prime target for every gang in town. Shifting power structures and uneasy alliances within the group generate narrative tension as extrinsic threats array themselves against these intriguing anti-heroes.
For now, this volume stands alone as the Silencers’ second launch. Interested readers can find the scripts for issues #2-4 at . Hopefully, reader interest will lead to further tales of the Silencers down the road.
