Furry Ninja High School

How odd. AP’s Ninja High School is being retold using anthropomorphic animals in this two-issue series from SFA. It’s not exactly a parody. It’s just … a retelling using animals. How odd.

It takes some doing to retell a tale in which some characters are (alien) humanoid animals in a setting where all the characters are talking animals, but, once that obstacle is overcome, it’s a pretty straightforward tale.

It’s interesting to watch the characters act in accordance with their new bodies and instincts, as well as to demonstrate pride in their species. There are also noteworthy in-jokes, from “Urusei Nutsura” to Secret Squirrel, but failure to catch them will not affect the enjoyment of the tale (or the tails).

This is strictly a novelty, but it may still appeal to both readers of AP’s regular NHS as well as SFA’s usual funny-animal fare.
