The Undead
(Chaos, 2002)
™ and © Brian Pulido
The Undead reads like a montage of horror and science-fiction films. Zombies live in a post-nuclear world in which humans are factory-produced as food. In one community, the living and the undead have learned to put aside their differences and live in peace. Life among the undead, as depicted in this comic book, is as varied as it is among the living. The antagonist, Mr. Smith, is a civilized (albeit cannibalistic) zombie. Certain undead factions protest for rights for the living like exanimate members of PETA.
The story is standard Chaos fare, although it does not take place in the same continuity as Lady Death, Chastity, and Purgatori. It was produced under the “Pulido’s Black Label Graphics” imprint. (That’s a mouthful!) The paper is a nice glossy white, but for five bucks it would have been nice to have color.
This is strictly for fans of horror, but the fact that it is black and white does make the gore less gory: an advantage for some readers, a drawback for others. (As an aside, the variant of the Chaos logo on this comic, with the letter “A” superimposed over the “O,” should be discarded. It looks like “Chas!” comics.)
