Uberdub
(Brave New Words, 1991-1992, 1996)
™ and © 1991 Matt Howarth
Featuring the further adventures of Bugtown’s most famous rock band, the Bulldaggers, Uberdub is a three-part tale focussing on the search for two of their missing members. C’Thulu and Caroline have mysteriously disappeared. While Bulldaggers Boche and Savage Henry search for C’Thulu and Caroline, another Bulldagger member, Conrad leaves the alternate reality of Bugtown for Berlin in order to grieve the apparent loss of his friends. While there, Conrad learns that his longtime friend, C’Thulu may or may not be the “creature of absolute and blasphemous evil” written about in H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu.” Created by writer / artist Matt Howarth, Uberdub is a surreal trip from the bottom of the sea to the bizarre landscape of Bugtown told through a minimalistic artistic style reminiscent of subsequent indie comix such as Richard Sala’s Evil Eye.
