Mars Attacks (Vol. 2)

    (Topps, 1995-1996)
™ and ©1995 Topps Comics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Topps Company, Inc.

In 1962, a set of trading cards featuring graphic images of Martians attacking Earth and its citizens was released. The set was entitled “Mars Attacks” and was created by Woody Gelman and Len Brown. In 1995, Topps Comics introduced this ongoing Mars Attacks comic title, in conjunction with another card set and announced that film director Tim Burton (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) was going to film a Mars Attacks movie.

The series picks up where the 1994 Mars Attacks mini-series left off. The Martians have invaded Earth, but are surprised that they have not instantaneously won the war. The invaders seem to be having trouble destroying military submarines as the Martians (coming, as they do, from a dry planet) do not possess sonar technology. The Martian high council doesn’t understand humans, and can’t understand why they would prefer to destroy Earth itself, rather than give up their freedom.
