True Gein
(Boneyard, 1993)
™ and © 1993 Pat Gabriele
True Gein—featuring writer/artist Pat Gabrielle’s “Ed!”—purports to be the true story of Wisconsin serial killer Eddie Gein, the inspiration for such characters in “Psycho,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “The Silence of the Lambs.” The comic book documents Gein’s devotion to the ultra-religious teachings of his domineering mother, and his passion for books about the Nazis, anatomy, and South Seas headhunters. It also details his collection of various body parts from graveyards and murder victims; and his habit of wearing a suit made of the skins of the women he had murdered. This comic book is ultra-violent and definitely not for children or the squeamish. Still, like passing a car accident, it’s difficult to turn away from it.
