Detective Comics began their run of intriguing short stories back in 1937 with collections of mystery and detective skills. Over the months, great heroes and villains such as Slam Bradey, Fu Manchu, and even the Crimson Avenger graced their pages. But in May of 1939, a new detective appeared in the pages of issue 27 who would change the face of modern deduction from the deerstalker cap of Doyle’s immortal Sherlock Holmes to the pointed ear cowl of the Batman. A new folk legend was born thanks to the art of Bob Kane and the scripts of Bill Finger. Together they created a costumed crime-fighter who was just a man, but one with a mission and the means to carry it out.

DC has put together the early adventures of the Batman and his young ward, Robin, straight from the early years of Detective Comics into a collection of volumes chronicling their earliest cases.
