The Adventures of Jerry Lewis

Before he hosted annual telethons and achieved legendary status in France, film comedian Jerry Lewis was popular enough in the United States to merit an 100+ issue run of his own comic book, published by DC from 1952 to 1971. For the first 40 issues, the series was called “The Adventures of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis,” but when the comedy team split up, the comics followed Lewis as a solo act (Martin’s antics at the time probably wouldn’t have made it past the Comics Code!).

The comic book format allows the wisecracking, bumbling funnyman Lewis to be inserted in all sorts of absurd situations without incurring the special-effects costs of the movies. The series relies on goofy gags and loose, fun-filled artwork to entertain an audience of mostly younger readers.
