Supergirl (1st Series)

    (DC, 1972-1973)
™ and © DC Comics

Although a longtime member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, this 1972 title was Supergirl’s first solo series. At the time, her costume consisted of a V-neck suit with a choker cape. The Maid of Steel lived a double-life as brunette girl’s school student “Linda Lee” and as the blonde hero Supergirl. In her latter identity, she had powers similar to her cousin Superman’s, including strength, invulnerability, heat vision, and the ability to fly. She used these powers to come to the rescue of any number of people, often fellow classmates, saving them from falling buildings, alien invaders, and other dangers.

This series also featured backup stories starring Zatanna, daughter of the famed magician Zatara (from early issues of Action Comics) and a powerful sorceress in her own right.
