Bizarre Fantasy

    (Flashback, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Steven John Busti

Bizarre Fantasy is a throwback (in the nicest possible sense of the term) to old monster comics of the 1960s. Written and drawn by Steve Busti, it features the sort of over-the-top mayhem that would make Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, and Stan Lee proud.

The first issue kicks off with the story, “Crisis at the Dawn of Time,” a tale in which a pair of scientists travel back from a doomed future to the dawn of history—only to have an experiment in evolution take a tragic turn. Even better is the next story, “Cowboys & Aliens.” Here an alien conqueror called “Morguu” lands on Earth, but faces resistance in the form of a range-riding cowboy and a pair of Indians. Finally, “Waiting for the Aliens” is a Ditko-esque tale of a UFO-obsessed man who finally meets the big-eyed creatures he’s been looking for—and finds that they’re not what he expected at all!
