One has traded his dream of being an artist for the financial stability of teaching. Another refuses to “sell out,” trying his best to personify the ideal of the Starving Artist, despite his growing fame. The third revels in the celebrity lifestyle of the trendy, uptown art scene. His brother, the tag-a-long member of the group, is just there for the free ride, free drugs, and cast-off girls.

This “Big Chill” story focuses on a group of male friends who struggle with the responsibilities that are a natural part of getting older, and examine the dynamics of their friendship despite the different paths they have chosen. Although individually some of them have accepted their adult roles, as a group they refuse to grow up, and whenever they get together, they spend their days and nights indulging in excessive drinking, drugs, and casual sex.
