Guy Pumpkinhead

    (Saint Gray, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Sean Long

Actor Bruce Campbell, of Evil Dead fame, in the introduction to Guy Pumpkinhead, writes that he can’t relate to indestructible heroes like Batman or Superman. He identifies with Guy because, “we like characters who are more like us, with our quirks and our shortcomings. Heroes are just the ones who don’t get bummed out.”

The artistic designs for this persecuted scarecrow came from the mind of Sean Long while he was listening to the song “Peter Pumpkinhead” by the band XTC. Co-written along with Kevin Watkins, the Guy Pumpkinhead character appeared in an independent magazine and a St. Louis ashcan before its present comic book incarnation.

With a style that echoes Scud: the Disposable Assassin, one of rich, detailed art and quirky storylines asking you to redefine your perception of reality, Guy Pumpkinhead stumbles into adventure at every turn.
