Legion of Super-Heroes (1st Series)

The Legion of Super-Heroes’ story began when 30th century teens Garth Ranzz (Lightning Lad), Rokk Krinn (Cosmic Boy), and Imra Ardeen (Saturn Girl) saved the life of R.J. Brande, possibly the universe’s richest man. Brande repaid the teens by helping them set up the Legion of Super-Heroes. It was to be a club of sorts, open to super-powered youngsters under the age of 18. Thanks to the wonder of time travel, this soon included Superboy, followed by 30th century teens such as Matter Eater Lad.

This early 1970s Legion of Super-Heroes series reprinted the Legion’s early adventures from Action Comics and Adventure Comics. Although the Legion had appeared as a regular feature with Superboy since 1949, in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, this was the first title which bore their name alone. Some years later, the Superboy series would change names to become The Legion of Super-Heroes (2nd Series).
