Fifty Who Made DC Great

    (DC, 1985)
™ and © 1985 DC Comics

After 50 years of what might generously be called a “spotty record” of recognizing the contributions of its creators, in 1985 DC published this handsome one-shot spotlighting 50 people and institutions who helped put the comics giant on the map. The choices range from early pioneers like publishers Harry Donenfeld, Jack Liebowitz, and M.C. Gaines to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the long-neglected creators of Superman, to movie and TV actors, animation studios, toy licensing companies, and modern-age innovators like Neal Adams, Frank Miller and Dennis O’Neil. Each honoree receives a page with a photo collage and a short blurb outlining their contribution to the company. The volume also features cover reproductions of landmark issues in DC history including Action Comics #1 and the re-appearance of The Flash in Showcase #4.
