Deathmask

If nobody out there remembers Bob Layton’s character The Sorcerer, it’s because he never existed — not outside a tantalizing sketch, that is. But, if memory serves, he looked not unlike Future Comics’ Deathmask.
You could make the case that the one thing comics doesn’t need is another masked avenger of the night, but this one has a fairly unusual background, not to mention he’s classy, right down to his stylish outfit. Moreover, this is the best-looking Future Comic to date — great art that’s actually helped by the coloring. Rich and sophisticated, the opening page has almost a 3-D effect.

Deathmask is so interesting that the only real drawback to the concept is his supposed master villain, Adonis Dulac, who comes off being blandly vicious. I understand white male businessmen make great politically correct bad guys, but do they all have to look like Steve Rogers?
