Star Wars Visionaries
(Dark Horse, 2005)
™ and © 2005 Lucasfilm Ltd.
Star Wars: Episode III provides tantalizing glimpses of new characters that will prompt fans to yearn for more background details. This anthology is aimed at them and presents 10 stories from Industrial Light & Magic artists (George Lucas’ special effects company), who designed people and places for the last few movies.
In a spectrum of styles and subplots, these tales include the origin of General Grievous and why the Wookie royalty declared war on The Separatists. These also hearken back to the original film (where, on Tatooine, an aging Obi Wan protects a young Luke against a vengeful Sith) to Empire Strikes Back (as Rebel soldiers retreat from the Imperial invasion of the ice planet Hoth, as well as a few colorful scene shots).
Ironically, a few of these short stories (such as the beginning and concluding installments, which feature especially toothsome enemies) seem more compelling than chapters of Episode III, and even supply necessary reference to make better sense of the new movie.
