Stupid, Stupid Rat Tails

    (Cartoon Books, 1999-2001)
™ and ©1999 Jeff Smith

This three-issue mini-series, a great addition to Jeff Smith’s Bone saga, focuses on the wild and woolly adventures of Big Johnson Bone, Frontier Hero, sort of a cross between Tomahawk and Yosemite Sam. As our story opens, this particular Bone is making his way across the untamed countryside with a monkey he won in a card game. In short order, he meets those eponymous rat-tails, the perennial vexation of Bones everywhere. Although he escapes unscathed, he soon comes upon a group of cute woodland creatures who have been plagued by the monsters. Can Big Johnson Bone save himself, his monkey, and these cute-as-a-bug critters from the rat-tail menace—and their vile queen? As usual, Smith’s Bone creations are at once touching, hilarious, and exciting to follow. Your Bone collection won’t be complete without this one!
