More than 600 years from now, the town of Laredo is a mix of old West and high tech, ruled over by a clan of Grendels. John Crow is the clan leader and, according to Grendel tradition, is pregnant with his first child. Before the baby can be born, a vampire attack destroys the community, and John becomes a vampire. The only two survivors are an old woman named Lydia and the hastily birthed baby, Aaron. Lydia knows that a vampire that was once a Grendel will be an almost unstoppable foe if allowed to rise to power. She plans to end John Crow’s existence on the desert plains using the child as bait to lure him out. But when Aaron finally comes face-to-face with his father, will it be to kill him or join him as a vampire?
