Strange Tales (3rd Series)

This third volume of Strange Tales was a plastic-covered, painted graphic novel in the style of Marvels. Like the books of that acclaimed mini-series, this volume was written by Kurt Busiek, although the painting this time out is handled by artist Ricardo Villagran.

This episode begins with old pals Nick Fury, Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), Ben Grimm (the Thing), and Doctor Strange swapping yarns over a game of poker. Through their remembrances we learn that some tales have power, and some stories can come to have a life of their own. We see how long ago, stories of alligators living in the sewers under New York became reality—as did a story about a serial killer brutally stalking the city. In time it becomes clear that all these weird happenings are work of an ancient Indian god who will unravel reality itself—unless someone can weave together a truly Strange Tale in which to trap him…
