X-Men: Wrath of Apocalypse

    (Marvel, 1996)
™ and ©1991, 1995 Marvel Characters, Inc.

This one-shot special reprints the “Endgame” story that originally appeared in X-Factor #65-68. The Wrath of Apocalypse is special because it was the story arc that formed the basis for much of the origin for the ultrapopular cyborg Cable.

This is the story in which Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, gives up his son Nathan to a representative from the future, in order to save the dying babe’s life. X-Factor at the time was made up of the original five X-Men, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Archangel, Beast, and Iceman. The five super-heroes find more than their fair share of trouble in this five-issue reprint comic. Their ship attacks New York, Apocalypse is bloodthirsty, and Nathan is dying. To save him, Cyclops is forced to send him into the future—resulting in Nathan eventually becoming Cable. Chris Claremont scripted this story, which featured pencils by the dynamic Whilce Portacio.
