Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

    (Claypool, 1993–2007)
™ and ©1993 Queen “B” Productions
Black and white comic and magazine series

Based on the schlock horror movie hostess character created and portrayed by Cassandra Pederson, this comic features photo covers of Elvira, parody plots, and, in keeping with Elvira’s persona, lots of bad jokes and puns. It has had a number of writers and artists, including Paul Dini and Kurt Busiek. The plots often launch from Elvira’s job as a sexy horror movie hostess for station K-WHA? and her conflicts with her bosses and sponsors. It’s intended to be a “funny book” in the truest sense of the word, and succeeds more often than not. There are occasional appearances by characters appearing in other Claypool Comics books, but it is not necessary to have read the other books to follow the stories or characters.
