Loner

One is reminded of the “Mad Max” movies from the 1980s when reading Loner. The title character doesn’t trust easily as he roams the wastelands, looking for criminals. He encounters large, mutated animals and monsters along the way, which make for tougher hunts than he usually counts on. This black-and-white series originally appeared in 2000 A.D. and featured stories about the title character. Loner is a bounty hunter in a post-apocalyptic society. His bounties are not so much the story as is his arch-rival bounty hunter, Barquooth, a spike-clad, deranged lunatic who more obsessed with gunning for Loner than in bringing in the criminals.

Fleetway/Quality, famous for its reprints of the popular English comic magazine, 2000 A.D., published “Loner,” a seven-issue mini-series, starting in 1990.
