Introduced in 1995, this series had a twin appeal. First, it was one of Marvel’s new line of 99¢ comics, a bargain at a time when the average comic price had climbed over $2.00. Second, it gave readers a contemporary look at the earliest adventures of the mutant group X-Men.

This series is a retelling of the events that took place in the original Lee/Kirby X-Men comic of the ‘60s, featuring new scripts and art. Recreating the original X-Men (1st Series) issue by issue, the new series uses a wide roster of creators, who take the old stories and redo them in a ‘90s style.
