The unconscious man washed up on a remote beach, critically injured with a bullet wound to the head. An elderly fisherman found the man, brought him home, and nursed him back to health with the aid of his wife and a local former doctor. The mysterious man bore no identification other than a strange tattoo on his chest: XIII. And when he awoke, he discovered that his injuries had stolen his identity—he had absolutely no idea who he was.

What became clear, however, is that he was anything but an average man. Days after “XIII” washed up on the beach, men came to the fisherman’s house. They murdered the old couple and tried to kill XIII. He defeated these assassins single-handedly, displaying a surprising talent for killing. In the days that followed, he would gain more clues to his past—including indications that he was the one who had murdered the president on the “Day of the Black Sun.”
