The White Lama

High in the Himalayas in an isolated Tibetan monastery the Grand Lama Mipan has seen his future in a dream. He is to die and be reincarnated one last time. He instructs his followers of the time and place of his return and of a method to prove that the child is indeed the holy man returned.

Years later a group of explorers from the West are captured and threatened with execution as demons by the local villagers. The timely interruptions of a magician in spirit form dissuades the villagers from this action and are instead instructed to shelter the husband and wife who are expecting a child at the home a local couple who are also expecting. Meanwhile, the monk that Grand Lama Mipan placed in charge until his rebirth has come to enjoy his position of power and takes measures to insure that he retains it.

It is obvious from the title that the child of the Western couple will be the reincarnated lama, but that is not evident to the power hungry monk who has the child of the local couple killed. This is a story of politics and religion and an unlikely chosen one who will stand against the corruption of faith.

This ambitious project is part of a six–volume story written by filmmaker and comic writer, Alexandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Georges Bess. It is published by in the United State by DC Comics in partnership with Humanoides Associes and is translated from French.
