The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath (H.P. Lovecraft’s…)
(Mock Man, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Jason B. Thompson
Randolph Carter escapes his squalid existence through dreams. Three times he dreamt of the opulent city named Kadath and each time was denied entry by the Gods of Dream. Spurred by an unrelenting desire, Carter descended the Seven-Hundred Steps to the Gate of Deeper Slumber, embarking on a metaphysical quest for the idyllic city.
This five-issue series is an ambitious undertaking by writer-artist Jason Thompson to adapt one of H. P. Lovecraft’s more atypical works. Not rife with slavering monstrosities like many of Lovecraft’s other novels, this book is closer to the mythic fantasies of Tolkien. Although the characters and creatures of the dream world are drawn realistically, Randolph Carter is depicted as a generic iconic figure to impart the protagonist’s “everyman” status.
