Star Wars: A New Hope—The Special Edition

    (Dark Horse, 1997)
™ and ©1997 LucasFilm Ltd.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Star Wars, director George Lucas re-released all three Star Wars movies for the big screen. As a bonus, he reshot many of the special effects sequences and added new footage, creating definitive “special editions” of the most successful science-fiction movies of all time.

From its very beginning, Star Wars was envisioned as a series of films, with the first released being in reality episode 4 of a larger storyline. This four-issue series adapts the first Star Wars movie, known by its full title, “Star Wars: A New Hope.” Dark Horse has been successful in sketching out the greater history of the Star Wars universe with their various Star Wars and Classic Star Wars titles. They are similarly successful with this series, although the action’s continuity relies perhaps a bit too much on the reader having seen the movie.
