Marvel Super Special began as a large-format book featuring appearances of the rock group Kiss in a comic book. In a fantastic publicity stunt, the group even arranged to mix drops of their own blood into the ink used in the print run, thus playing up their “Satan-rock” image. Other special issues included a feature on the Beatles and a proof-quality limited run of the Weirdworld storyline, with each copy signed by the artists.

Most issues, however, were rather straightforward movie adaptations. The features ranged from Battlestar Galactica to Annie, although science-fiction/fantasy films of one sort or another dominated the series.
