Catwoman: Selina’s Big Score

™ and ©2002 DC Comics

Selina Kyle, the Catwoman, is one of Batman’s oldest foes and sometimes love interest. Often used to test how Batman could resist temptation and not fall completely for a woman who is basically his female counterpart yet is on the opposite side of the law, Catwoman was revamped by Frank Miller in the 80s. Kyle became a former prostitute turned burglar.

In this hardcover, Darwyn Cooke captures the crime-fiction grit and moody visual style of Miller’s Batman: Year One although the slightly cartoon-like art recalls the Dark Knight’s animated series of the 90s, which Cooke was a part of. Batman doesn’t appear in this high-speed tale of Kyle attempting the mother of all heists: robbing a train filled with gangster millions.
