The Twisted Tantrums of the Purple Snit
(Blackthorne, 1986)
™ and ©1986 Lynn Cobb and Bruce Patterson
During the independent comic publishing explosion of the mid-1980s, a lot of people got to publish a lot of very weird stuff in the little black-and-white magazines that started appearing in the direct-sales comic shops around the country. One of the stranger entries was this series by John Stephenson, Dennis Francis, Michael Kelly and Craig Colbert.
The “Snit” is a furry purple animal of no recognizable species, distinguished by a glowering expression and bad attitude to match. His housemate, the hapless creature Funk, can’t help but run afoul of Snit with his witless antics. And let’s not forget the third member of this melange, their dog Biting Wit. Definitely a strange artifact of a strange time, it spoke to the antisocial fringe of the 1980s alternative nation.
