Apathy Kat

Apathy Kat was a short‑lived four‑issue series published by Entity Comics in 1995–1996. Created by Harold Buchholz and Craig Carrington, it was a funny‑animal comic in the tradition of classic mid‑century kids’ books but with a modern, tongue‑in‑cheek twist. The series followed Ap, a hip teen cat with a distinctive speech style, and his friends Java, Samson, Pepper, and Suzie. Their misadventures often played with pop‑culture parody and surreal humor — in one story, Ap and his pals literally tumble into the pages of a Robin Hood comic and find themselves trapped inside. The covers were in color while the interiors were black‑and‑white, giving the book a retro underground feel.

Although brief, the series carved out a niche as a playful satire of both funny‑animal comics and mainstream superhero tropes. Its blend of parody, absurdist storytelling, and lighthearted adventure reflected the indie comics spirit of the mid‑1990s, when small publishers experimented with genre mash‑ups and offbeat humor.
