Doc Savage (Marvel)

    (Marvel, 1972-1974)
™ and ©1972 The Conde Nast Productions

Doc Savage is one of the oldest heroes in comics, able to trace his history from the age of the pulp novel. Raised by his father to be the pinnacle of physical and mental perfection, he leads a life of high adventure. He is accompanied by his five aides: Monk, a gorilla-like brawler who is also an ace chemist; Ham, a dapper lawyer; Long Tom, an electrical genius and courageous fighter; Renny, a cynical powerhouse; and Johnny, an egghead genius in geology and archaeology.

Implausible, schlocky, cliché-ridden, and a lot of fun, Doc Savage is the perfect pulp hero brought to comics. It’s little wonder that any number of publishers have brought out titles featuring this “man of bronze.”
