Beetle Bailey Featuring Sarge Snorkel
(Charlton, 1973-1976)
™ and © Charlton Publications, Inc.
When Beetle Bailey debuted in newspapers in 1950, his chief nemesis was his college professor. Soon after, he was drafted and then his troubles really began when he met the protruding single-toothed Sgt. Snorkel. Snorkel was always kicking the lazy Beetle into action and had a Homer Simpson like appetite which caused constant competition with the similarly large-gutted Army chef, Cookie. By the 1970s, Snorkel was popular enough to warrant his own spin-off title from Charlton.
