In the Tangent Universe, nothing is the same as in the DC Universe except the names. This is the sixth installment of DC's second run of comics set in the Tangent Universe, in 1998. This issue ties together all the others.

The Doom Patrol is on the run from the secret agency Nightwing and other forces that know they are from the future. They suspect that they themselves are the cause of the future end of the world that they have traveled back in time to prevent. They escape Nightwing, which just wants to use them to control the future, with the help of Meridian, Nightwing's Eurasian equivalent. But Meridian finds that its leader and Russia's is really the dictator Josef Stalin, now a vampire, who wants the Doom Patrol for his own evil ends. Meridian teams with Nightwing's Night Force to free the Doom Patrol from Stalin, but the Night Force's Black Orchid accidentally merges the Doom Patrol into one being, the Ultra-Humanite, whose creation produces the worldwide electromagnetic pulse affecting the events of the other comics. It knows what it was. It knows what will be. And it claims Earth for itself.
