Green Lantern: Ganthet’s Tale

    (DC, 1992)
™ and ©1992 DC Comics

A familiar plot device during the 1990s was time travel. The protagonist returns to the past to prevent the occurrence of a heinous crime from altering the present or visits the future and experiences those pleasures and dangers. Almost every major character has been featured in a time travel story either individually or a member of an ensemble. Notice the key words are “major character.” The story should be original and crisp when primary focus shifts to a supporting character. Unfortunately, Larry Niven’s script lacks a passionate and emotional anchor. Apathy will creep into the mind and divert attention from a story without that emotional anchor. Essentially, one cannot generate any sympathy for the all-powerful Guardian Ganthet and his dilemma. Trade paperback editions are issued for important or high interest stories. Sadly, those reasons are missing from this book.
