The New Teen Titans (1st Series)

The New Teen Titans first appeared as a preview in DC Comics Presents #26. That issue introduced us to the characters of Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire, who were joined by Robin, Kid Flash, metamorph Changeling, and various others to form the current team.

Although a later Titans series would seem somewhat ashamed of the “teen” designation, this series used it to good advantage. The team members had lives and families outside of their super-hero identities, inter-team romances came and went, and they dealt with real world problems such as drugs and runaways. That the team members were teenagers helped make each of these situations ring true to life—although the solid writing of Marv Wolfman deserves a great deal of credit as well.
