Fathom Prelude (Michael Turner’s…)
(Aspen, 2005)
™ and © 2005 Aspen MLT
Before she regained her memories and discovered her abilities, Aspen Meadows was just a normal teenage girl… well, as normal as any other kid on the U.S. Olympic Swim Team, of course! Breaking records without really trying, Aspen seems a shoo-in for a gold medal in the 1988 Olympics. Naturally, her amazing accomplishments lead to accusations of steroid use and blood-doping. Without the knowledge of her true heritage, Aspen is unable to explain the inevitable anomalies in her blood. Her subsequent expulsion from the team turns out to be a blessing in disguise, however, putting her on the path that ultimately leads to her becoming Fathom.
With the events of 2004’s Fathom: Dawn of War setting the stage, 2005 looks to be the biggest year yet for Michael Turner’s seafaring super-heroine, with both this title and Fathom: Beginnings heralding the 4th ongoing Fathom series.
