In a time when the market is glutted with new comic titles and characters, Bill Black’s Retro series remind us that a character doesn’t have to be new to be good reading. Incorporating both new and previously published stories about Cat-man and other classic Golden Age characters, Black is creating a new continuity of heroes set in the year 1954. Other titles will feature such heroes as the Fighting Yank, Captain Flash, and Yankee Girl, and should include several crossovers.
The 6.75 inch by 8.5 inch book, sized differently than most current comics, gives the title a pulp fiction feel, while the black-and-white artwork gives the campy horror stories a touch of grim realism.
