With Cannon God Exaxxion creator Kenichi Sonoda abandons the Quentin Tarantino-esque shoot-’em-ups and high-speed streetwise comedy of Gunsmith Cats for sci-fi. Centering on alien-hating teen Hoichi Kano, Cannon God Exaxxion swings back and forth between perverse humor and unsettling violence as the once seemingly benign extraterrestrials the Riofaldians take over the Earth after being warmly accepted by humans. Kano is recruited by his grandfather Hosuke Kano to fight the otherworldly traitors. Equipped with a high-tech suit and assisted by a well-endowed female android provided by his grandpa, the tough-talking Kano wages battle on the aliens that he never trusted. Cannon God Exaxxion can be viewed as both a parody of and homage to science-fiction manga, especially ones involving giant robots and extraterrestrial invasions.
