Nightwing: The Target
(DC, 2001)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics
Former Batman protégé Dick Grayson has graduated from Robin to Nightwing. Now he spends his days as one of the few honest cops in the corrupt city of Blüdhaven.
When Officer Grayson interrupts four cops beating two suspects to death, he is slugged from behind. Waking up in the hospital, he is told that one of the suspects was killed and the police had to knock him out to stop his rampage. The dirty cops are covering for themselves of course, and it is their word against his. Batman warns him that Nightwing’s involvement in this case could cast curious eyes at him and his former mentor, so someone else needs to investigate. This one-shot prestige format title finds the former sidekick adopting yet another guise, The Target, a name that is significant on more than one level. Chuck Dixon and Scott McDaniel tell a satisfying, fast-moving crime story within the confines of the super-hero genre.
