Predator: Homeworld
(Dark Horse, 1999)
™ and ©1987, 1999 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
What started as little more than an entertaining Arnold Schwarzenegger action film has turned into a veritable franchise for Dark Horse Comics, with this full-color mini-series, yet another installment. The creatures whose purpose is defined by their name—Predators—continue on their silent, murderous ways, little mindful of the lives they callously take for sport in a shockingly brutal manner. Here the action is narrated by several frightened humans who were unlucky enough to encounter the killers, but lucky enough to survive to tell the tale.
Moody and suspenseful, the series further explores the Predator aliens and their actions in a compelling and appropriately cinematic manner. By series end, anything seems possible…including, perhaps, a frightening glimpse of the Predators’ very homeworld. Written by James Vance and Kate Worley, and drawn by Toby Cypress in a cool and shadowy style that brings to mind some of Mike Mignola’s work.
