Westerns are on their way back. Not the Westerns that mainstays like Dick Ayers, Russ Heath, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby did, but, Westerns like Joe Lansdale, and Tim Truman produced in the mid–90s, and Jeff Mariotte is proudly carrying on that tradition.

Taking off where the Homage series left off, IDW and Mariotte add to the already established characters we met in A Moments Sunlight, Epidemic, and Quiet of the Grave. In Banners of Gold, Jeff and artist Jeremy Haun give us the further adventures of Gideon Brood, Jerome Betts, Abby DeGrazia, and spiritualist Sarah Williams as they trek across Apache country to reach “civilization.” Unknown to them, the vile Donnie Fletcher is on their trail, and what they encounter is sure to change them forever.

Combining spiritual horror with a Western background has created a compelling story illustrated with a strikingly simple art style. As this five–issue limited series carries on, readers should find themselves riveted to their seats as the Wild West meets the Spiritual Best.
