Chiaroscuro
(Vertigo, 1995-1996, 2005)
™ and ©1995 Pat McGreal
From the Vertigo line, writers Pat McGreal and David Rawson, and artist Chas Truog present a ten-issue account of the life of the great Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci. The story is told from the viewpoint of Salai, Leonardo’s amoral, conniving apprentice. The relationship between master and servant, and of art and the artist, is explored, providing a startling and often dark portrait of human natures and desires. The work and research that went into this book is evident, and the specialized subject matter is presented in a very reader-friendly and approachable way.
Chiaroscuro is a term relating to the interplay between light and dark in a picture.
