In the early days of Image Comics, Col. John Annex Stone, a.k.a. Battlestone, was the leader of Youngblood, a government-sponsored super-group made up of flashy heroes with bad attitudes. He was very unlikable then, but a lot of fun to watch. He eventually fell from grace because he was responsible for the deaths of certain Youngblood members. Despite this, he showed no apparent remorse for his actions.

In this two-issue series, Battlestone has been given a second chance. The government realizes his potential and is now using him to do black-ops work (covert missions so secret that even their funding is hidden from most government oversight committees). In his new role, Battlestone eliminates those who might make trouble for the good old U.S. of A. He is still remorseless and his attitude hasn’t improved any, but he’s still fun to watch in action.
