Writer/artist Paul Pope (The Batman Chronicles) offers up an intriguing mystery in this five-issue limited series from DC’s Vertigo imprint. In this tale set in a dark, futuristic version of Manhattan, our anti-hero and sleuth S is hired to find Rodan. Rodan is an artist who is capable of forming Heavy Liquid, a substance that is both a drug and an artistic medium, into the perfect sculpture. Ironically, Rodan is S’s missing lover, and S himself is fighting a powerful addiction to Heavy Liquid. As the detective pursues the artist, he encounters more dangers than he’d planned for, including killer robots and evil clowns. Pope pushes the limits here, creating an intricate tale that is at once entertaining and thought provoking.
