Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley in 1944 and this is her life story. There was a time when Brenda Lee was a very popular singer (late 50s-early 60s) when this comic appeared. She’s perhaps best known today for the hits “I’m Sorry” and for her definitive version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. Her popularity was usurped when the British invasion took a foothold in early 1964 with the arrival of The Beatles and Lee was relinquished to “oldies” fate. She’s still an active performer today (2006), usually appearing on the Branson, MO circuit.
