This limited series from Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti—the creative team behind Monolith and Hawkman (4th Series)—looks at the repercussions of super-heroics in an Authority-esque world. Years ago, a super-heroine called Serenity led the super-team First Light in a battle against the Righteous—something of a Superman avatar. The battle decimated an American city and climaxed in a throw-down between Serenity and the Righteous that apparently destroyed the combatants, killing thousands of ordinary citizens, and injuring even more. However, the impact of the battle on a young girl named Rene and a young boy named Abe is deeply significant. Haunted by visions of the wounded and the dead, Rene grows up to be a paramedic, while Abe, Serenity’s son, grows up without his mother in a completely automated environment. Can these two disparate figures find common ground and save the world? Is Serenity or the Righteous still out there somewhere? The first issue raises a number of questions and promises intriguing answers.
