X-Men: Liberators

    (Marvel, 1998-1999)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.

Just one of the many mini-series, spinoffs, etc. that make-up the “X” line of books, X-Men: Liberators stars three of the team’s more classic characters: Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Colossus. This story brings the heroes together after their time apart on different teams (Nightcrawler and Colossus broke off to form Excalibur, while Wolverine stayed with X-Men). The story focuses on the re-bonding of this once tight knit group of friends through the battle of a mutual adversary, the likes of which could bring an end to them all.

Wolverine and Nightcrawler accompany their teammate Colossus on a trip to the former Soviet Union to commemorate the anniversary of his parent’s deaths. While abroad, the trio comes face-to-face with Province 13 (a government center used for the containment of young mutants) and one of its more gruesome creations—a misshapen creature with a death touch that has developed a taste for the mutant trio. Throw into the mix the evil Omega Red and you have an adventure that would challenge even the whole of the X-Men, let alone just three of its members.
