CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations—Rogue State

    (IDW, 2004-2005)
™ and © 2004 IDW & Konami

Another one of IDW’s tie–in adaptations to a video game property, this cross between Greg Rucka’s Queen and Country and Steve Niles’s 30 Days of Night is both entertaining and a fresh take on the horror sub–genre of vampires. When the elite CIA–funded spies of CVO, vampires one and all, start to get knocked off by one of their own, it is up to an elite squad of vampire agents to track down the killers and flush out the conspiracy. Action–packed and full of gory vampire battles, this is one adaptation that goes further and into better places than the source material. The great art by Antonio Vasquez is reminiscent of early Tim Sale (Batman: The Long Halloween, Spider-man: Blue) work. Written by Jeff Mariotte formerly of WildStorm Publishing and best known for his collaboration with John Cassaday on the critically acclaimed, Desperadoes.
