High from Detroit the Geodesic Sounds of the Teenage Alcoholics

This magazine–sized comic hearkens back to underground comix, except that there’s no sex or drugs, and it’s neither subversive nor funny. It does revolve a lot around beer, which should count for something. (It doesn’t, but it should.) This issue contains the so–called origin of The Teenage Alcoholics. (The Teens spent 13 years in the beer kettle of Dr. Stroohz being fed bock beer, so they’re hardly still teens!) Geodesic? That doesn’t come until later, when they meet The Enabler.

This comic comes with a free CD of The Teenage Alcoholics. Their repertoire seems rather one-track, with songs like “Beer Bong,” “Dick Likes His Beer,” “Party Animal” and “Teenage Alcoholic.” Also, each song starts with the sound of a beer opening. How clever.

According to the house ad, this CD normally sells for $5 plus shipping. One could look at this comic as thrown in free with the CD. If so, it’s not a bad promotion. Of course, one then has to review the CD. Happily, this would be a job for a music magazine.
